Undergraduate Course
NB The Faculty of Science is to cease to offer specialised degrees and from 2009 this degree will no longer be available to new enrollees.
The BSc (Molecular Biotechnology) course includes programs of study previously unavailable in Australia and provides students with a choice of specialisations that offer attractive prospects for employment and further education. Our aim is to produce graduates who have the imagination and vision to work in this field.
The BSc (Molecular Biotechnology) course is both intellectually appealing, delivered in an innovative manner utilising web-based teaching and in-industry programs. It exposes students to molecular biotechnology education including an appreciation of its social and ethical implications.
Studies include biopharmaceutics, drug design and screening, diagnostic tools, production of recombinant microorganisms, bioreactors, proteomics, tissue engineering, stem cells, vaccines, technologies used in biotechnology, agricultural and environmental biotechnology, commercialisation and business issues, and bioethics. The regular participation of academic experts and industry partners ensures relevance and access to current areas of emphasis in this rapidly expanding field and provides the possibility of direct student involvement in industry prior to graduation.
